When designing a weapon for simple droid soldiers, the most important features were not performance but ease of maintenance and extremely low manufacturing costs. Droid soldiers are expendable and so too are their guns. Thoroughly average in all areas of performance the E-5 is short-ranged, mildly inaccurate and has a low rate of fire compared to later designs.
